Electoral rolls are the nearest record Australians have to census listings and hence are extremely important to local, social and family historians. This collection provides information on approximately 273,000 electors in Queensland who were registered to vote on the Commonwealth Roll of 1906. The information recorded includes the person's name, gender, residence, occupation, and polling information (i.e. division, subdivision and roll number).

A redistribution of Queensland electorates occurred in 1906. At the time electoral registration was not compulsory. However, most men and women chose to enroll. This index includes all electors recorded in the 1906 rolls [source: National Archives of Australia, Series BP94/2, Commonwealth Electoral Rolls for Queensland]. Of note is that this collection includes 25,000 electors from the Kennedy Division, and 39,000 electors from parts of other divisions, both of which are generally missing from other online electoral roll sources.

Queensland Family History Society Inc. aims to promote the study of family, and local history, genealogy, and heraldry, and to encourage the collection and preservation of records relating to the history of Queensland families. www.qfhs.org.au
